First look at new Nokia E-series smartphones – Nokia E55 & E75

Posted by mobilex9 on 4:08 AM

Nokia has recently released new models to the continuation of their E-series smartphones, aimed at professionals on the move and those who need to be connected at all times.

Usher in the new Nokia E55 and E75. Essentially, both the E55 and E75 run on the same Symbian OS v9.3, and general functions are quite similar.

Input wise, however, the E75 has an integrated slide-out QWERTY key mat for easy messaging, which definitely comes in useful for emails and office applications on the go.

Both business-optimized phones have a display resolution of 240 x320 and are equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera with similar multimedia functions. According to Nokia’s website, it appears that the E75 can record videos at a higher frame-rate (30fps) compared to E55 (15fps, which is utterly disappointing by today’s standard).

New iPhone 4G

Posted by mobilex9 on 5:48 AM
For more Apple related breaking news & chat join TNW Apple on Facebook and Twitter, or grab our RSS feed here.

Mac Daily News has caught wind of some information that points to Apple releasing the next-generation iPhone on June 22nd.

The telltale sign is the renting of a conference center, where all three previous generations of iPhones have been announced. However, if Apple holds true to its past, we’re likely to not hear anything out of the company until well closer to time.

The ModMyi forums are the epicenter of this information, with writer Messany stating “”Although no confirmations have yet come from Apple (naturally), there is speculation that the big [next-gen iPhone] reveal could take place on June 22nd”.

He goes on to say “For what its worth, while no concrete evidence has turned up to suggest the announcement of a Verizon iPhone at the June 22nd event, a late-breaking tip from Flurry Analytics suggested the possible existence of a Verizon iPhone being used in the US in recent days.”

Only time will tell, of course. But you can rest assured that The Next Web will bring you every bit of information (and a few rumors as well) as soon as it becomes available.

Nokia Aeon Concept Phone

Posted by mobilex9 on 12:38 AM

Showing up in the R & D section of its company’s website, the Nokia Aeon Concept Phone features a full touch screen surface that eliminates the use of the traditional keypad and brings its users a further step to futuristic technology.

Looking great with its extremely sleek and sexy look, Nokia should use some perfected material that doesn’t leave fingerprints on Aeon’s touch screen display to keep the Aeon looking ever glamorous. Besides, no one would want to spend half his or her time wiping it.

Multimedia Phones Predicted to Exceed TV Shipments Next Year

Posted by mobilex9 on 10:54 AM
With half of the world's population owning mobile phones, there's still plenty of room to introduce new mobile phones. The new study by MultiMedia Intelligence reports that the worldwide shipments of multimedia feature rich mobile phones will exceed 300 million units in 2008, outnumbering shipments of TV sets.

mobile technology

Multimedia phone is defined as a handset equipped with an image sensor, MP3 audio support, and video playback. It is estimated that 9 out of 10 handsets are multimedia phones by 2011. According to Frank Dickson, Chief Research Officer for MultiMedia Intelligence:
"Voice services are suffering under increasing price pressure, forcing operators to leverage data services to sustain revenue growth and offset declining voice ARPU. Handset manufacturers are racing to meet the consumer and operator demands for increasingly feature-rich multimedia handsets, while controlling handset cost and power consumption. The result is the mobile phone has become the world's most ubiquitous entertainment platform."
Given the increasing number of multimedia phones, it is now a major factor to retain and gain new customers.

Bang & Olufsen has launched a new mobile phone, supplied by Samsung - the Serenata. The phone features a built-in stereo loudspeaker system, and users have the choice to listen through the integrated loudspeaker system or through the dedicated stereo EarSet 3 earphones or to connect it to their hi-fi as an auxiliary source. The focus has been on providing a music performance with emphasis on playback of "uncompressed" music. Besides handling lossless formats, Serenata also handles playback in compressed formats including MP3, WMA, and AAC

Chinese company announces new mobile phone watches

Posted by mobilex9 on 12:46 PM

mobile phone wrist watchBeam me up Scotty! In an announcement expected to go hand in hand with hover cars and robot servants, Chinese electronics company C-Sky Industrial limited has announced that it will be producing a range of mobile phone wrist watches.

Though not a new idea (see the Samsung GPRS watch phone), these new models (from the pictures at least) stand out from previous failed attempts at converging a watch and a mobile phone due to the sleek design and excellent spec list. Apparently, if these products do ever see the light of day, we can expect Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel camera and mp3 playback.

As with many Chinese companies, innovation is the name of the game and what once would have seemed laughable, today seems entirely feasible.

Though many of you will be looking at the watch phone with a large degree of scepticism, what this undoubtedly does go to prove is how far mobile phone technology has come in the pursuit of integrating multiple devices.sony_ericsson-btooth-watch.jpg

Past products which spring to mind in this vein include the Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth watch, an incredibly attractive watch which provided owners with excellent features such as caller id and text message alerts on the watch face itself as well as the ability to pair it with an accompanying Bluetooth headset and answer and end calls directly on the watch.

Bluetooth has always been an area of innovation with hundreds of unique applications, from the useful to the downright daft. Now an increase in the amount of fashion orientated products, including Bluetooth wristbands and even a jabra1.jpgBluetooth headset styled as dog tags are becoming ever more popular.

Where past ventures have seen mobile phones partnered with fashion houses such as the giants of Prada and Armani, perhaps the manufacturers are now directing the fashion themselves with the products likening themselves more to jewellery. Should we expect a phone co-launched with a major watch brand?

Whether mobile phone earrings, necklaces or bracelets will materialize in the future remains to be seen, but the future design of mobile phones can be viewed with excitement (and a large pinch of salt!). While for the time being watch phones are still niche and viewed with a hint of negativity it is wise to remember how we all scoffed at camera phones!

So hang on to your jewellery and your fashion phones for the meantime, just don’t be surprised if your next handset ends up replacing that Rolex!

Windows Mobile Touchscreen Phone Looks Hot, Keeps It Simple

David Turpin’s design of a touchscreen cellphone featuring Windows Mobile is brilliantly simple and sexy looking. Well, we can only assume that the handset’s display is touch sensitive, but judging by the device’s slimness, there’s no sliding keyboard hiding in there.

Windows Mobile Touchscreen Phone Looks Hot, Keeps It Simple

The only question now is what Windows Mobile flavour is this phone going to sport… Maybe Windows Mobile 7 and its superb touch-based interface? Also, I’m betting on the inclusion of an accelerometer for some auto-rotating menu fun.

Motorola Briq Concept Phone is a Touchscreen Dual Slider

Posted by mobilex9 on 12:10 PM
I received an email just the other day, that had a beautiful concept design attached: the Motorola Briq. No details at all about it, but there was a name at the end of the email, Piotr Paczkowski, who is, I suspect, the designer of the handset. We’re dealing with a dual sliding beauty, with a very, very strange keypad, a diagonal numeric one on the right and a half QWERTY on the left.

Microsoft unveils new mobile OS with Apple-like app store

Posted by mobilex9 on 12:00 PM
While both services offer to sync settings, contacts, and calendar data, as well as present a web interface for accessing and editing the same data, My Phone also serves as an online version of some of the features of iTunes, allowing it to backup the entire phone device to the cloud and then restore that image to a new phone.

The service, which is currently available in a limited invitation-only beta, also offers to sync photos and video taken by Windows Mobile phones to its online service, similar to how the iPhone can upload photos to a MobileMe gallery.

Windows Mobile Marketplace

Perhaps the most significant of Microsoft's announcements are plans to take on Apple's App Store with a similar service dubbed Windows Marketplace for searching, browsing and purchasing mobile applications from Windows phones or from a PC by using a Windows Live ID. The new marketplace will be included with all Windows phones based on Windows Mobile 6.5 and allow developers to offer applications to customers through a security and compatibility check facilitated by Microsoft.

June 7, 2009

Nokia 6600i Slide Mobile PhoneNokia 6600i 5MP Camera Mobile Phone is one of the latest releases from Nokia, and comes with a lengthy list of enticing features. It is the updated version of the last year release Nokia 6600 Slide mobile phone. The only difference is the shiny case and a beefed up camera. This is a handset of high monetary value; for €200, this hand-held device offers a good collection of features. This is a 3G phone, and sports a 5MP camera with dual flash and autofocus too. This smart gizmo comes with decent multimedia player and FM radio too.

Although it features a 5MP camera, the video capturing is possible at 15fps VGA resolution or 30fps QVGA resolution, which is considerably disappointing for such high resolution cam! 6600I is not a smartphone, and thus the choices are also limited. However tap control feature of this mobile phone helps to manipulate various functionalities with the single soft tap of finger! Software of this unit is a standard set of S40 applications.

Samsung Omnia (Soft Bank)

Posted by mobilex9 on 10:32 AM

In Japan, Samsung Omnia packs a 800 x 480 pixels display, built-in TV tuner and comes in red too

Samsung Omnia has been only today announced for Japan, several months after the handset went on sale in Europe.

However, Japanese mobile users seem to be a bit luckier than the European ones, as Omnia will be launched by SoftBank with some upgraded features.

The official name of the Japanese Omnia is SoftBank 930SC Omnia. The phone has a 3.3 inch TFT touchscreen display that supports a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Now compare that with the 240 x 400 pixels, 3.2 inch display of the regular Omnia

The Japanese Omnia also has a built-in 1-Seg TV tuner, which is, of course, not included in the handset’s versions for other countries.

SoftBank will release the phone in three color versions: black, white and red. Unfortunately, the red Omnia might not be found anywhere else except Japan.

Apart from the bigger display and the TV tuner, the features of SoftBank 930SC Omnia are the same with the ones we can find in the original handset, including Windows Mobile 6.1, a 5 MP autofocus camera and 8GB of internal memory.

Samsung Omnia will be commercially available from SoftBank starting November, for a price that is not known yet.

Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900)

Posted by mobilex9 on 10:26 AM

Samsung Electronics South Korea released on early Monday preview details on the company's new smartphone, before the mania of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference begins in California.

The Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900) is similar in looks and function to the Samsung Instinct (SPH-M800), but with a few more bells and whistles.

Artist's sketch of the Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900) to be revealed next week at Communicasia.

(Credit: Samsung Electronics)

For starters, it sounds like it has a very promising camera. With five megapixels and anti-shake technology, this may be the first camera on a phone that produces pictures you would actual think of printing, not just posting to Facebook. This is an improvement over the 2-megapixel cameras on both the first-generation iPhone and on the Samsung Instinct.

The touch-screen smartphone, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and features Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Opera 9.5 as its Web browser, will also have Wi-Fi. That's something the Instinct also lacks.

Like the Instinct, the Omnia has visual voice mail, 3G capability, Bluetooth, an FM radio, and GPS functionality. The smartphone, of course, also doubles as a music player and, with 16GB, will be able to hold up to 4,000 songs or 100 minutes of video, according to Samsung.

How it will compare with the new 3G iPhone Apple is rumored to be revealing on Monday remains to be seen.

More details on the smartphone's specs will follow when the Omnia (SGH-i900) is officially unveiled on June 17 at Communicasia, the 2008 Singapore Expo. The Omnia (SGH-i900) will become available in Southeast Asia first and then be launched to other markets over the second half of 2008, according to Samsung.
