It is the updated version of the last year release Nokia 6600 Slide mobile phone. The only difference is the shiny case and a beefed up camera. This smart gizmo comes with decent multimedia player and FM radio too.
Although it features a 5MP camera, the video capturing is possible at 15fps VGA resolution or 30fps QVGA resolution, which is considerably disappointing for such high resolution cam! 6600I is not a smartphone, and thus the choices are also limited. However tap control feature of this mobile phone helps to manipulate various functionalities with the single soft tap of finger! Software of this unit is a standard set of S40 applications.

Samsung Omnia (Soft Bank)
In Japan, Samsung Omnia packs a 800 x 480 pixels display, built-in TV tuner and comes in red too
Samsung Omnia has been only today announced for Japan, several months after the handset went on sale in Europe.
However, Japanese mobile users seem to be a bit luckier than the European ones, as Omnia will be launched by SoftBank with some upgraded features.
The official name of the Japanese Omnia is SoftBank 930SC Omnia. The phone has a 3.3 inch TFT touchscreen display that supports a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Now compare that with the 240 x 400 pixels, 3.2 inch display of the regular Omnia…
The Japanese Omnia also has a built-in 1-Seg TV tuner, which is, of course, not included in the handset’s versions for other countries.
SoftBank will release the phone in three color versions: black, white and red. Unfortunately, the red Omnia might not be found anywhere else except Japan.
Apart from the bigger display and the TV tuner, the features of SoftBank 930SC Omnia are the same with the ones we can find in the original handset, including Windows Mobile 6.1, a 5 MP autofocus camera and 8GB of internal memory.
Samsung Omnia will be commercially available from SoftBank starting November, for a price that is not known yet.
Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900)
Samsung Electronics South Korea released on early Monday preview details on the company's new smartphone, before the mania of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference begins in California.
The Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900) is similar in looks and function to the Samsung Instinct (SPH-M800), but with a few more bells and whistles.
For starters, it sounds like it has a very promising camera. With five megapixels and anti-shake technology, this may be the first camera on a phone that produces pictures you would actual think of printing, not just posting to Facebook. This is an improvement over the 2-megapixel cameras on both the first-generation iPhone and on the Samsung Instinct.
The touch-screen smartphone, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and features Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Opera 9.5 as its Web browser, will also have Wi-Fi. That's something the Instinct also lacks.
Like the Instinct, the Omnia has visual voice mail, 3G capability, Bluetooth, an FM radio, and GPS functionality. The smartphone, of course, also doubles as a music player and, with 16GB, will be able to hold up to 4,000 songs or 100 minutes of video, according to Samsung.
How it will compare with the new 3G iPhone Apple is rumored to be revealing on Monday remains to be seen.
More details on the smartphone's specs will follow when the Omnia (SGH-i900) is officially unveiled on June 17 at Communicasia, the 2008 Singapore Expo. The Omnia (SGH-i900) will become available in Southeast Asia first and then be launched to other markets over the second half of 2008, according to Samsung.
Samsung Omnia
The Windows Mobile smartphone also offers Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and EV-DO Rev. A support, as well as a 5-megapixel camera and robust multimedia features. I think that the top interesting aspects in Samsung Omnia's design are the TouchWiz interface and the touch screen, but the 3.2 inch screen is pretty cool too: it has 240x400 pixels resolution and it has 262,000 color output. So, overall, the display is quite eye-catching. It is quite good for displaying images, texts and videos, though it's not as sharp as HTC Diamond's display is.
Samsung Omnia has a virtual keyboard and it has also an accelerometer, which switches the view from portrait to landscape, according to the way you hold your phone, and the access to all features is done through the panel on the left, which contains all the applications, like music player, notepad, clock, and media gallery. It can be customized, and after you set it up, you can make it visible and hide it by tapping on the arrow. It has the Home screen, but is also offers users the Main Menu page where all the basic applications are stored in an user friendly manner. So if you are not quite satisfied with TouchWiz, you can switch to the Windows screen from the Settings menu.
Samsung Omnia has interesting features, and I would like to mention only a few, the most useful and attractive ones: visual voice mail, each contact in the address book can have multiple fields, and the CDMA includes conference calling, voice dialing, text and multimedia messaging and other features. Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Fi are successfully integrated in the connectivity section, and you can use also GPS/A-GPS for navigation, but it will cost you $9.99 per month, or $2,99 per day (from Verizon).
I think that the camera is very good: the pictures' quality was excellent and the antishake feature is quite useful, the colors look good, and the video quality is better than many other Samsung phones, with slightly pixelation. There are TV capabilities too, and you can edit the videos too with a editing application.
The call service performance is good, sometimes appeared complaints from users that the volume needs to be turned up and maybe some of them reported a slight echo, or a small lag when launching applications, but Windows Mobile functioned very good in stress conditions. Samsung Omnia can has a life battery of 19 days on standby time, and 8 hours passed until the battery drained after continous talking. According to more tests, Samsung Omnia has a digital SAR rating of 1.31 W/KG.
Overall, I think that Samsung Omnia is a great smartphone, and that the Windows Mobile is good organized on this phone, and the functionality and the performances make Samsung Omnia a real competitor for the incumbent iPhone.
Dual SIM Buddha phone
For all the tech savvy Buddhist buddies here at NewLaunches, there couldn’t be anything sweeter for us to give. No we’re not gifting you, just letting you know that somewhere far away there lies a cool Buddha phone that looks just like a pocket watch from a century ago, or more like a compass. Though this isn’t the first phone to be themed with the ‘Buddha’ tag, it is way better than the ones that came before because of its compact size and features. These include a 1.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, media player, microSD expansion slot and Dual SIM support.
Nokia N800
Mobile giant Nokia has revealed to CES delegates that it's teaming up with Skype to create a new mobile edition of the world's favourite internet telephony software.
The new edition of Skype is being built specifically for Nokia's new N800 Internet tablet (pictured), which was also revealed and released for sale at CES. It's not going on sale just yet, but we're likely to see it in mid-2007.
"Skype is the recognized leader of Internet communications with over 136 million registered users worldwide," said Nokia's Ari Virtanen, Vice President of Convergence Products. "Nokia's new N800 Internet Tablet is designed for mobile Internet. Together, we can develop communications devices beyond expectations."
Nokia’s New Mobile OS: Maemo Harmattan
In an interview about a couple of weeks back at the Nokia Developer Summit, David Rivas – Nokia VP, discussed the Nokia’s strategy for having multiple software platforms – basically stating that different devices need different OS for different tasks – not one OS fits the bill. The three major OS used by nokia are S40 which drives the “volume” division, S60 which drives the “value” and Maemo (built on Linux) for the internet tablets and “other interesting products”.
S60 for Value? This and the excerpt below sides with Eldar’s speculations about a month ago when we heard about the Nokia Nautilus and other new Nokia Touch screens, where Nokia maybe shifting S60 (or Symbian Foundation) into mid range/mass market handsets, and possibly have Linux reserved for the high end devices. Many, including myself, have been a little underwhelmed with S60 touch, especially with the first ghastly demonstration – , it was embarrasing to be a Nokia fan – it had no optimisation for finger touch, it just looked like they slapped on a touch screen to normal S60 3rd edition. It’s evolved somewhat since then, as we have from both the 5800, N97 and even from the Samsung camp with the i8910 with S60 5th edition. However, it still lacks complete finger friendly optimisation, or really any new innovation – much of which is hampered by the fact that it is S60 with touch and has a lot of legacy and compatibility issues to deal with. The only real solution is to start from scratch. Much like what Palm has done with the Palm Pre and WebOS – delivering an unexpected dish of usability and intuitiveness to the table, last brought onto our plates by Apple’s iPhone.
Whilst we can go on to bash S60 5th edition for not being a completely dedicated touch UI, it maybe worth considering (or just hoping) that S60 touch is just an interim solution for Nokia’s REAL touch UI. Get some user base familiar with S60 touch, roll out some important services (Ovi) whilst silently working on what maybe Nokia’s game changer.
Nokia Shows Off Stretchy, Bendable “Morph” Cell Phone
Boston (dbTechno) - Nokia, along with the University of Cambridge, have revealed the cell phone of the future. The new mobile device uses nanotechnology is called the Morph, and it is a mobile phone which is stretchable and flexible, allowing it to act almost like a rubber band.
The Morph was revealed at the Design and Elastic Mind exhibition at the Musuem of Modern Art in New York City.
The mobile device uses nanotechnology.
The idea behind the Morph is that it will allow you to do anything with your cell phone. If you want to wear it like a bracelet, you can do that. It gives a great deal of freedom to users.
Nokia’s cheif technology officer Bob Iannucci stated “Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices. The Morph concept shows what might be possible.”
Nokia has stated that they hope to take portions of the Morph and apply it to their high-end mobile devices.
They expect the technology behind the Morph to be in the hands of consumers within the next seven years.
Over time this technology will get cheaper, and in the long run this could be the foundation of the cell phone of the future.
